Shelley Green is an Associate Professor of Family Therapy in the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, where she has taught since 1991. She served as the Director of the Doctoral Program in Family Therapy from 1996-2001, and was instrumental in helping the program achieve Candidacy Status with the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

Dr. Green earned her Ph.D. in Family Therapy from Texas Tech University in 1989. There she earned the Outstanding Graduate Instructor Award in 1987. Upon graduation she accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Family Therapy at East Carolina University, a COAMFTE accredited program. She also served as Adjunct Assistant Professor at the East Carolina University School of Medicine, delivering lectures for family practice physicians, interns, and medical students. She conducted a private practice in Greenville and served on the board of the Family Services Council.

In 1991, Dr. Green began to teach and supervise in the NSU master’s and doctoral programs in Family Therapy. Dr. Green’s research and teaching interests are in the sexuality, AIDS/HIV, clinical supervision, and qualitative research. She has published numerous articles and book chapters, and is co-editor, with her husband, Dr. Douglas Flemons, of Quickies: The Handbook of Brief Sex Therapy (W.W. Norton, 2005), as well as the recently released expanded Quickies (W.W. Norton, 2007).She has served as a board member and vice president of the board of directors of Planned Parenthood Association of South Palm Beach and Broward Counties, FL, as member and chair of the Elections Council of the Florida Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and member of the Elections Council of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. She has twice been awarded the Professional Community Service Award from the Dade County Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, and in 2000 received the Contribution to the Professional Development of Marriage and Family Therapists Award from the Florida Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.

Dr. Green and her husband Douglas have two children, Eric, age 14, who is a musician and actor, and Jenna, age 9, who is dancer.
