Biographical
interviewing is often used in social science research and
in other settings – such as education, family interviewing,
conflict management and counseling.
The method has been found
to be an extremely sensitive technique for documenting and
learning about the life experiences of people who have experienced
massive social trauma – such as war, genocide, being
a refugee, personal traumas, and crises – such as rape,
losing a child, or surviving a serious traffic accident.
Workshop participants will
learn the rationale of biographical interviewing, the methods
uses in such interviewing, including practical guidelines
for the interview setting, and some basic analytical tools
for interpreting the life stories.
|
By
the end of the workshop, participants will:
-
Know the basics of biographical interviewing
-
Be able to embark on a biographical interview of their own
-
Be able to incorporate a number of different interview elements
in their work
- Gain
basic knowledge concerning possible uses of biographical
interviewing
-
Have introductory knowledge on ways of interpreting the
interview materials
