The
Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) at
Nova Southeastern University (NSU) offers a new,
innovative academic program designed for professionals and
others interested in the field of Family Therapy at select
NSU’s Student
Educational Centers. Our Master’s Degree Program in
Family Therapy is intended to develop the skills and abilities
of practitioners to create and maintain high-quality programs.
Dedicated professionals are needed in the family therapy profession
to work with individuals, couples, and families. Students
are prepared to assume professional positions in private practice,
employee assistance programs, managed care and health care
organizations, child care and child development systems, family
service agencies, schools, churches, hospitals, and other
clinical and organizational settings.
THE
PROGRAM
The M.S. in Family Therapy is designed to help students develop
clinical and professional excellence and prepare for careers
as marriage and family therapists. The 48-credit hour degree
program consists of coursework and clinical practice. Training
is concentrated on brief, systemic, and interactional models
of family therapy, preparing our graduates to practice in
a time-sensitive, cost-effective manner.
The
program fulfills the academic requirements for MFT state licensure
in Florida and for clinical membership in AAMFT. Additional
post-master’s clinical experience is required for both
credentials.

Your first step
in becoming a
family therapist!
“The
program works from a systemic model which allows us to appreciate
all the models... it allows me to look at a system... It’s
taught me to think on a much more global perspective. You
develop as a well-rounded professional. I am a clinician,
researcher, teacher, and supervisor because of the program.
I love what I do.
NSU/SHSS
is looked at as a unique program, because of its innovative
ways of teaching.”
